The content of fibrinogen/fibrin breakdown products (FBP) was determined in the blood and urine of 153 patients with arterial hypertension of various origins, such as hypertensive disease of stages II and III (49 patients), symptomatic nephrogenic hypertension (90 patients) and malignant hypertension syndrome (14 patients). In the blood, the FBP were detected more frequently in the patients with malignant hypertension syndrome (86% of the cases), subacute malignant glomerulonephritis (89% of the cases) and the III-stage hypertensive disease (35% of the cases). In the urine, the FBP were discovered in the patients with nephrogenic hypertension usually accompanied with the nephropathic syndrome, such as acute glomerulonephritis (29% of the cases), subacute malignant glomerulonephritis (100% of the cases), lupus nephritis (64% of the cases), and nephropathy of pregnancy (80% of the cases). The appearance of the FBP in the blood and urine reflected the gravity of arterial hypertension. Detection of rapidly increasing concnetrations of those products in patients with arterial hypertension may be of value for timely diagnosis of possible thrombohemorrhagic complications.
