Immediately prior to cesarean section, a controlled investigation was undertaken of the effect of indomethacin (Confortid) on inhibiting uterine contractions. Ten patients in an advanced stage of labor received the preparation in doses of up to 50 mg i.v. and 10 patients received NaCl i.v. No tocolytic effect attributable to administration of the preparation at the active period of delivery was demonstrated. The dosage administered did not result in any side effects in either the mothers or their infants.
