The role of Omnadin as an immune modulator with respect to antimicrobial chemotherapy was observed in experimental infections. Omnadin, even in single doses, significantly improved the therapeutic effect of the bacteriostatic compound tetracycline. Omnadin, which stimulates antibody formation, enhances also mechanisms of cellular immunity, which could be shown by a higher mitogen induced macrophage migration inhibition with cells of Omnadin treated animals. T- as well as B-cells exhibit a more pronounced acid phosphatase activity and mitogen reactivity when cell donors were pre-treated with Omnadin. In the more complex system of skin allograft rejection, Omnadin treatment results in a quicker graft rejection which can be taken together with the other results as confirmation of the immune modulating effect of Omnadin. The conception of the additive effect of Omnadin in antimicrobial chemotherapy as a sequence of immune modulation was evidently substantiated.
