Considerations on von Willebrand's disease variants. Report of six cases

Six patients with variants of von Willebrand's disease in whom there were strong discrepancies between VIII:C, or VIII:AG, and VIIIR:FW, were studied. Increased electrophoretic mobility of VIII: AG was found with CIE . With regard to a control plasma, only 1 case failed to parallel with, and to reach the maximum binding in, the dose response curve constructed from IRMA. The cryoethanol precipitation test showed lack of precipitate material, which meant absence of high MW forms. Evident delay of the VIII:AG eluate was found in gel chromatography with regard to the normal plasma. In the von Willebrand's disease variants normal low FVIII: VW forms might possibly exist (since their polymerization mechanism fails) altogether with structural molecule abnormalities.
