Chlorbutin, azathioprine, D-penicillamine, and levamisole (Decaris) in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis patients. I. Comparative analysis of side effects

The frequency and severity of side effects were analyzed in 333 patients with rheumatoid arthritis treated with chlorbutin, azathioprine, D-penicillamine and levamisole (decaris). The total estimation of the indicators characterizing the risk of the occurrence of side effects, drug discontinuation risk and risk of severe complications during the treatment showed that levamisole is the most harmful drug compared to D-penicillamine and azathioprine. Chlorbutin was the safest drug. rheumatoid factor and erosive arthritis progression. The 1-day regimen of levamisole administration had no advantages with respect to side effects.
