Diffuse granulomatous metritis in the dromedary. Histopathological findings

Diffuse lymphocytic infiltrations and circumscribed granulomatous infiltrations composed of small lymphocytes, lymphoblasts, histiocytes and reticular cells were the most salient features of a common form of endometritis occurring in camels in Somalia. Epithelioid cells, giant cells and a few necroses were occasionally found in individual foci. The foci were not vascularized and were surrounded by an optically homogeneous zone. The uterine vascular layer showed signs of an obliterating arteritis. Occasional spread of the lesions to perimetrium suggested haematogenous diffusion. Mycobacteria and fungi were not found.
