A study of the head shape and stylet morphology of males of 90 populations of M. arenaria, M. hapla, M. incognita and M. javanica using the light microscope, and stylets of one population each of M. arenaria, M. incognita and M. javanica and 5 different chromosomal populations of M. hapla using the SEM, showed differences between species. Differences occurred in size and shape of head cap, annulation of head region, width of head region relative to first body annule and size and shape of cone, shaft and knobs of stylet. Head shape and stylet morphology of males are recommended as additional taxonomic characters for the identification of these Meloidogyne spp.
