Silica gel MN-H was the most suitable absorbent for thin-layer chromatography and methanol was the best eluting solvent. Extraction with benzene and acetic acid (95 + 5) and purification on a cellite column resulted in extracts of high purity. Recovery rates for wheat and rye are given. The method can also be used for semiquantitative determination of ochratoxin A with immediate visual evaluation on the chromatogram.
