Nervous reactivity changes in subjects with post-meningoencephalitic epilepsy

An electrographic study of the somatic, autonomic and EEG compoenents of the orienting response elicited by an auditory stimulus was performed in 29 patients with post-meningoencephalitic epilepsy and in 116 matched subjects in 3 control groups. The study evidenced a significantly more intense orienting response in patients with post-meningoencephalitic epilepsy than in control subjects. The degree of intensification depended on the features of the EEG tracings and on the history, electroclinical form and frequency of seizures.
