Continuous cooling of the spinal cord for 6 and 28 days had a probably beneficial effect on the outcome of salmonellosis (caused by Salmonella enteritidis) in the rat, suggesting that the apparently harmful effect of high fevers is not due to the cold defense response but may be caused by the high body temperature.
