Sixteen calves were given the maximum doses recommended by the manufacturers. After i/m injection of 40 000 IU/kg of procaine benzylpenicillin, the tissue concentrations reached 11-45% of those in the blood serum, but the kidney concentrations were 2-4 times higher and the liver concentrations up to 27 times higher than serum values. The tissue distribution of oxytetracycline was not complete until 14-24 hours after i/m injection of 10 mg/kg, when the tissue and body fluid values corresponded to those of the serum. Spiramycin showed strong tissue affinity after oral administration of 50 mg/kg daily for 5 days; the concentrations in the organs were 25-60 times higher than in the serum, while the fat and muscle concentrations were comparable to those in serum.
