Some biochemical, immunological and morphological changes of the blood system in patients dealing with lead salt

Blood and urine analyses were performed for 178 workers from the Pb shop, 80 workers from other shops and 35 healthy people who were not occupationally exposed to Pb. When the level of autoantibodies was compared with the amount of free protoporphyrin IX in erythrocytes, people affected by Pb antierythrocyte autoantibodies were discovered earlier than disorders in porphyrin metabolism. A comparison of autoantibody titers with principal signs of saturnism showed that intense formation of antierythrocyte autoantibodies under Pb effect occurred earlier than specific changes in the peripheral blood and in porphyrin metabolism.
