With particularly nutritious formulations of horse blood agar some clinically isolated strains of S. salivarius may produce .beta. hemolysis. The same strains are not hemolytic on more traditional formulations of horse blood agar or any sheep or human blood agars. The significance of these strains in the identification of clinically important streptococci is discussed.
