Presence of the leukocyte migration inhibition factor (LMIF) was examined in 30 patients with atypic onset and course of myocardial infarction, 35 patients with the anginous form of infarction and 20 healthy donors using a cell membrane antigen. At the same time the T lymphocyte count was determined in all patients using the rosette formation test. The LMIF could be determined by the reaction of leukocyte migration inhibition (RLMI) appearing in the blood of the patients with myocardial infarction as early as within the 1st 24 h. The magnitude of the migration index (MI) in the patients with the typical form of myocardial infarction comprised 52 .+-. 2.6%; in the healthy donors it was not below 87% and averaged 108 .+-. 6.4%. In the cases of the atypic onset and course of the infarction, the MI was also lowered (53 .+-. 4.9% on the average). Positive RLMI was registered in 93-94% of all persons examined, pointing to its high sensitivity and possibility of using it as an additional diagnostic criterion. The population of the rosette-forming cells and the absolute T lymphocyte count corresponded to those observed in the donors. This points to the absence of immunity deficiency in patients with myocardial infarction; however, it does not rule out changes of the functional properties of the lymphocytes. Evidence of the latter is the presence of LMIF detected by RLMI in the presence of the membrane antigen.
