Twenty-two cases of prerenal uraemia are described in which there were no significant kidney lesions. A total of 12 conditions were diagnosed, with the majority of rabbits (12) suffering from gastro-intestinal impaction of some kind. Diarrhoea preceded each case (5) of caecal impaction. Plasma urea concentration lay between 30 and 59 mmol/litre in 15 of the 22 rabbits compared with urea values of less than 29 mmol/litre in 14 rabbits with renal amyloid and renal cortical fibrosis. The study shows that uraemia may be associated with a number of diseases in which there is no demonstrable renal pathology.
