The technique of staining S-phase nuclei red, G1 and G2 phases green was modified as applied to paraffin sections of the myocardium. The red staining coincided with the label in 93.4 +/- 0.7% of the nuclei studied. The technique can be used for measuring the number of DNA-synthesizing nuclei.
