Serum proteins and immunoglobulins in infancy and childhood

Serum proteins including Ig were studied in 53 healthy children from 0 day to 10 yr of age. Total globulin levels of these were higher than those reported for healthy children in the west [of India]. Higher levels of total globulins were reflected in all fractions but significantly in the .gamma.-globulin fraction. Serum proteins appeared to be in maximum flux from birth to 3 yr of age. IgM, IgA were lowest at birth, IgM reaching the highest between 1-3 yr and IgA between 7-10 yr. IgG was highest, almost double the adult levels, at birth, lowest between 6-12 mo. and almost reached the adult values at 10 yr of age.
