Imported filarial infections in Tasmania

Two cases of filariasis recently diagnosed in Tasmania, Australia, are thought to be the first reported from this island. An English immigrant who had spent 2 years in West Africa was infected with Loa loa and an Indian man had eosinophilia and positive serology for filariasis (using Dirofilaria immitis as antigen).
