1,4-Dioxyquinoxalin, 2-N-2-hydroxyethylcarbamoyl-(3-methyl-)1,4-dioxyquinoxalin and 3-methyl(2-methylene)-1,4-dioxyquinoxalin, which are stimulators of animal growth and development, were tested for their effect on human fibroblast cells in vitro, in doses of 12.5 and 200 ppm. Cytopathogenic effect was revealed, with intranuclear changes particularly expressed. The 3 compounds exerted a marked effect on cell morphology and physiology. Fibroblast cells acted upon by the first 2 compounds, then passaged 3 times without them, underwent further degeneration and disappeared.
