Eye diseases in opisthorchiasis

Eye diseases were linked with opisthorchiasis in 21 patients, the infection being detected for the first time in 18 cases. 19 patients suffered from various disorders of the uveal canal, one from neuritis of the optic nerve and one from rosacea keratitis. The diagnosis was made only after other infections such as toxoplasmosis and brucellosis had been excluded. The case-history of a patient with eye trouble for 12 years with gradual loss of vision is reported. Once opisthorchiasis had been diagnosed and treated (with chloxyle) the eye condition of this patient improved.
