Data of a 5 yr dispensary observation of patients with grave atrophic gastritis are presented. In patients with a moderate atrophic gastritis, the structure and function of the gastric mucosa remained for the most part stable. In cases a progress of reconstructive gastritis, 1/3 of the patients showed a progress of the pathological processand 1 patient developed a polyp. In cases of atrophic hyperplastic gastritis, 6 out of 32 patients developed polyps and 1 gastric cancer. It is patients with atrophic hyperplastic gastritis who are the 1st to apparently be placed into the group of increased oncological risk.
