Phagocytic activity of the leukocytes in chronic glomerulonephritis

The visual method was used to determine in vitro the phagocytic activity of the peripheral blood leukocytes in 107 patients with various clinical forms of chronic glomerulonephritis. Derangement of phagocytosis function was revealed in all clinical forms of the disease, manifesting in decreased phagocytosis and in its slow increase with time (lazy phagocytosis). The extent of the phagocytic activity decrease correlates with the general clinical indices of the activity of glomerulonephritis and is most pronounced in patients with the nephrotic syndrome and with an unfavorable variant of its course. Causes of phagocytosis inhibition in all clinical forms of chronic glomerulonephritis including the nephrotic syndrome are discussed.
