The effects of a new benzodiazepine (pinazepam) were studied in a group of 20 patients suffering from anxiety psychoneurosis with gastroenteric somatization. The psychic condition was evaluated on the basis of the IREP, Hamilton tests and of Kendell and Roth's scale. A favorable action of the drug was shown, as far as the specific anxiety symptomatology was concerned, by a marked reduction of the anxiogenic quota. Pinazepam also acted favorably on symptoms referred to the digestive tract and this was correlated to the reduction of the anxiety component. Response to the drug was rapid and there were no side effects.
