Indications for cesarean section based on seconds of the Mragowo Municipal Hospital

Over 5 yr in Mragowo Town Hospital 306 cesarean sections were performed (7.2% of all deliveries). First cesarean sections were 77% of the total. The patients age ranged between 17-44 yr; the most numerous group was women between 21 and 25 yr old (35%). All cesarean sections were performed in gestations older than 28 wk, 61% were performed between the 38th and 40th wk. In the lot of delivered liveborn babies 15% were with low weight-at-delivery. The most frequent indications to perform the cesarean delivery were: imminent intrauterine fetal asphyxia, cephalopelvic disproportion, breech presentation in primipara, placenta previa or abruptio placentae. Complications after cesarean section were noted in 26% of cases; the most frequent were febrile states in early puerperium (42% of the lot). In no case did maternal death occur. The post-operation hospital stay ranged from 8-25 days, 13.7 days on average.
