After an outline of the mode of action of ultrasound, recommendations are made for therapeutic applications, and potential dangers are discussed. During seven years, 143 horses and 53 dogs were treated, and representative cases are described. Ultrasonic therapy is recommended for lumbar spinal pain, paresis, traumatic injury of the foot and vascular derangements in small animals, and also for injuries to tendons, joints and soft tissues in horses.
