Vaccination of pregnant cows with Anaplaz (prepared from Anaplasma organisms released from the erythrocytes of infected cattle) gave rise to erythrocyte antibodies, which, on passage through the colostrum, could give rise to erythrocyte lysis in their calves. Risks of calf erythrocyte lysis were greatest when cows were vaccinated in the last three months of pregnancy and after repeated doses of vaccine.
