The occurrence and levels of antibodies against Kunin antigen were investigated by passive hemagglutination test in sera of healthy subjects, typhoid carriers, patients with typhoid fever, patients with scleroma and children with nephritis. The occurrence of the antibodies was a stable property of the human sera, while the antibody level depends on duration and localization of the pathologic process. The highest antibody level was found in patients with scleroma (1:750); it was 15 times higher than in blood donors (1:50). CAE [common antigen of Enterobacteriaceae] antibodies were analyzed for Ig classes. Serum samples were chromatographed on Sephadex G-200 column. In blood donors, typhoid fever patients and children with nephritis the antibodies were mainly of IgM type, while in patients with scleroma they were mainly IgG. In sera of typhoid carriers the antibodies were either IgM only, or IgG only, or both Ig classes were detected.
