Problems in cats caused by flea collars

A 12-month survey of adverse effects of flea collars in cats was carried out through a questionnaire presented to about 250 veterinary practices. Of 569 cases of adverse effects, 33 were permanently injured or died, 128 were temporarily injured (excluding dermatitis), and 408 had dermatitis requiring veterinary treatment. A few cases of generalized organophosphorus poisoning were diagnosed clinically, with various degrees of liver or brain damage. It is concluded that the safety of cat flea collars is in doubt.
