A case of Ascaris suum infection in lambs

Examination of lambs at an abattoir in North Wales revealed 4 Welsh mountain X Suffolk lambs of local origin with one worm each and a fifth with two worms which were identified as Ascaris suum. The worms were female and were between 12.2 and 17.7 cm in length and 0.2-0.3 cm in width. A suum infection in lambs is rare and this appears to be only the second positive report in the UK.
