The results of coproscopic and serological (indirect immunofluorescence test, IFT) examinations of 543 Soviet and foreign subjects arriving to the USSR from Asian, African and South American countries are presented. Cases of amoebiasis (11) were detected among 109 patients by clinical observations in combination with the results of serological examinations. The diagnostic significance of IFT in a titer 1:80 or higher was confirmed. Among 334 apparently normal subjects, 3.6% were carriers of Entamoeba histolytica; in 2 subjects with a history of amoebiasis, the IFT was positive in a titer 1:80. The indigenous residents of endemic zones were more frequently infected with E. histolytica, they had higher antiamoebal antibody titers than the Soviet citizens who worked in tropical areas only temporarily.
