Phaeomycotic cyst. A clinicopathologic study of twenty-five patients

The clinical and pathological features of 25 cases (14 male, 11 female, aged 4.5-83 yr) seen during 1959-78 are described. Cultures from 6 lesions are reported as Phialophora gougerotii (2), P. repens, P. richardsiae, P. [Wangiella] dermatitidis and P. [Exophiala] jeanselmei. It is reported that no race, sex or age group is predisposed to the disease, but patients with immune deficiency or debilitating disease are at increased risk. Associated diseases in these 25 cases included polyfilariasis, tuberculosis, leprosy, diabetes, uterine dysplasia, cardiovascular disease, leukaemia and lymphoma.
