Blast formation under phytohemagglutinin action as an index of nonspecific lymphocyte reactivity in thyroid gland diseases

Nonspecific lymphocyte reactivity, effect of autosensitization to invariable thyroid antigens on functional lymphocyte capacity for PHA-induced blast formation were studied in patients with thyroid diseases (adenomatous euthyroid goitre, thyroid cancer, diffuse toxic goitre). Significant inhibition of nonspecific lymphocyte reactivity was revealed in all the groups of patients under study. It was found that in thyroid malignancy functional lymphocyte activity is essentially lower than in patients with non-malignant thyroid affections of this organ.
