Tests were made on 5 compounds (Etorphine + Diprenorphine, Ketamine, Phencyclidine, Acetylpromazine and Xylazine) used to anaesthetise large game animals. When large doses were injected intraperitoneally into rats infected with Trypanosoma rhodesiense, these compounds had no effect upon the motility, morphology or infectivity of the trypanosomes. Consequently these compounds should not affect the reliability of trypanosome surveys made on game animals.
