Antigenic characterisation of Toxoplasma gondii strains by gel diffusion method

Antigenic characterization of 9 local isolates of T. gondii of human and animal origin was done using the gel diffusion method by reacting the specific antigens against homologous and heterologous antisera raised in rabbits and rats. Cross absorption studies against RH antiserum were done to see antigenic difference, if any, between these isolates and the standard RH strain. The number of bands developed in each case was 3-5, one of which was of host origin. The RH strain was most expressive and the POR isolate was the least expressive in antigenic make up. Two strains, AC and BS isolates, were closest to the RH strain.
