Aerobic actinomycetes from soil

Soil samples (176) were examined for the presence of aerobic actinomycetes, using the paraffin baiting technique. Aerobic actinomycetes were widely prevalent (22.1%). All isolates were classified on the basis of detailed morphological and biochemical characters. Fourteen samples were positive for Nocardia: 4 each N. asteroides, N. brasiliensis and N. caviae while 2 isolates remained unclassified. Twenty-five soil samples grew Streptomyces spp.
