Proof of strain-specific activity of lipase production as a contribution to epidemiology of Canadida tropicalis

Recently cultured strains (164) of C. tropicalis were tested for lipase production (method: Tween 80-medium by Werner). Lipolytic intensity was characteristic and different for the various strains of this species and some single-cell colonies. Lipase production did not correlate with morphological characteristics or source of the yeast strains. All strains but 1 obtained from 1 patient belong to the same biotype. Under certain conditions, strain-specific activity of lipase production may be used to solve problems in pepidemiology of C. tropicalis.
