Lipoprotein lipase and liver triglyceride lipase in blood plasma of rabbits and rats subjected to heparin administration

Activity of 2 main lipolytic enzymes lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and liver triglyceride lipase (LTGL) was studied in postheparin blood plasma of rat and rabbits, which are distinctly different in their sensitivity to experimental atherosclerosis. The enzymatic activity was estimated at 37 and 28.degree. C in mixtures containing different triglycerides concentrations. The animal species studied differed both in the absolute values of the activity of LPL and LTGL and in the ratios of these enzymatic activities in postheparin blood plasma. Variations in the procedures used did not detect any distinct activity of LTGL in rabbits.
