Seven cases of shock following the use of formaldehyde solutions during surgical removal of hydatid cysts from the liver and/or peritoneum are described. (An 8th case is briefly described in an addendum). 3 patients died. Toxic or allergic reactions are considered as possible causes of the shock, which has not been reported previously in the literature.
