Testosterone induced changes in rabbit semen

Effect of testosterone propionate was studied on the pH, motility, sperm concentration, percentage of live and abnormal sperm of rabbit semen. Three doses were used (low dose i.e. 0.75 mg/kg, optimum dose i.e. 1.5 mg/kg and high dose i.e. 3.0 mg/kg) and the effects were studied after the 1st wk, 3rd wk and 5th wk. The pH was significantly increased after 5th wk with low dose and after 3rd and 5th wk with the optimum and high doses. There was significant decrease in: motility after the 3rd and 5th wk with low and optimum doses and only after the 1st and 3rd wk with the high dose, sperm concentration with each dose at all the 3 intervals and the percentage of live sperms with each dose after the 3rd and 5th wk. There was a significant increase in the percentage of abnormal sperms with each dose after the 3rd and 5th wk.
