Keeping the feet clean and avoiding all trauma are the cardinal principles in treating peripheral ischemia. If venous stasis causes ulceration, regular, gentle cleansing of the ulcer and the careful removal of dead tissue is necessary. Deterioration of the limb may necessitate amputation.
