In experiments on mouse paw, the response to injury (s.c. administration of 0.2 ml of physiological solution) was a biphasic change in the electrical potential difference (EPD) between the distal termination, including the region of the injury and the thoracic section of the spine. The kinetics of the EPD change reflect 2 stages of an inflammatory reaction. The EPD increase in the 2nd stage corresponds to the activity of fibroblasts in the inflammation focus creating a new capillary network to ensure an increase in O2 content. The synchronous changes in the EPD obtained on 3 different leads in the 1st stage of the reaction show that the inflammatory reaction encompasses the entire body. Administration of the carcinogen urethane disturbed the basal membrane.
