Between December, 1975, and October, 1977, severe diarrhoea and septicaemia broke out occasionally on four different intensive farms. Diarrhoea affected most calves, and the mortality was 14-35%. At first kanamycin with oxolinic acid was an effective treatment, but oxolonic acid resistant S. naestved soon appeared.
