Platelet adhesiveness and dilute blood clot lysis time were studied in 19 normolipemic control subjects and 96 hyperlipemic patients (21 with type IIa, 37 with type IIb and 38 with type IV HLP ). The significant delay of dilute blood clot lysis noted in patients with endogenous hypertriglyceridemia (type IIb and IV) was correlated with the increased values of serum triglycerides and of the pre .beta.-lipoprotein electrophoretic fraction. A deficient fibrinolytic activity was found in such hypertriglyceridemic patients whether atherosclerotic or not. Platelet adhesiveness was increased only in the 40 hyperlipemic patients with obvious phenomena of clinical atherosclerosis. Delayed fibrinolysis may be due to certain metabolic peculiarities occurring in hypertriglyceridemic subjects, while changes of platelet adhesiveness should be attributed to a blood flow disturbance caused by extensive vascular lesions.
