Pre-weaning and post-weaning survivability in Corriedale, Coimbatore and their cross-bred sheep

Data were collected during spring and autumn lambings in 1970-74 on 89 Corriedale, 92 Coimbatore, 133 Corriedale X Coimbatore, and 87 Corriedale X (Corriedale X Coimbatore) lambs. Preweaning mortality (0-3 mth) averaged 49.06, 18.37, 11.84 and 17.27% resp. Postweaning mortality (3-12 mth) averaged 64.63, 31.45, 17.39 and 25.42%. Differences between genotypes were highly significant. For postweaning mortality, there were significant genotype X season and sex X season interactions.
