Following a report by R.T.M. Cursons et al. [Pz 3, 4043] of low IgA levels in a case of primary amoebic meningoencephalitis, immunoglobulin levels were determined in an 11-year-old girl 3 days after contracting Naegleria fowleri infection in Bath. IgA, IgG and IgM levels were all within normal limits and no reactions at a dilution of 1:8 were obtained in a fluorescent antibody test against N. fowleri. The girl died 2 days later.
