Glycosaminoglycans of small cell carcinoma tissue were characterized and their elevated level was demonstrated. Small cell carcinoma contained 3 .times. more hyaluronic acid than sulfated glycosaminolycans, while the proportion was reversed completely in adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
