Recent laboratory and field studies of the infectious inflammatory disease of cloaca and penis [apparently caused by a Neisseria sp.] in geese are reported. Evidence is presented of transmission of the agent through the egg and of its carriership among birds hatched from infected eggs and among survivors of outbreaks. The responsibility of the infection for decreased laying performance and increased flock infertility is demonstrated. Epizootological observations suggest that the infection fails to evoke a firm immunity. Attempts at flock therapy with certain broad-range antibiotics [chloramphenicol, gallimycin, neomycin] are described.
