Intravenous feeding with glucose as the only carbohydrate was evaluated in a retrospective study of 30 patients. There was very good assimilation of intravenous glucose with no dangerous blood sugar variation. As the glucose was increased stepwise in the initial phase, the incidence of glucose intolerance was low. The good correlation of blood and urine sugar shows that there is no problem in the control of carbohydrate metabolism during intravenous feeding with glucose and that urine samples provide adequate control after the initial phase.
