2400 laparoscopies were performed in the City Hospital of Nuernberg between 1968 and 1977. In 259 cases, the operation was performed for diagnositic reasons, in 86 cases for the performance of a biopsy, and in 2055 cases (85.7%) for the performance of sterilization. The complication rate was 1.58%, mainly insignificant bleedings. In 45.3% of the cases, another operation (e.g. appendectomy, gall bladder operation) had been performed before the laparoscopy. 9 pregnancies were reported (.45%), 7 intrauterine and 2 ectopic. In 2 cases the ligamentum rotundum had been coagulated by mistake; in the remaining 7 cases recanalization had occurred.
