In India, height and bodyweight were significantly retarded in children 3 to 4 years old who had had severe intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), irrespective of their socioeconomic status. Their head circumference was slightly less and their mental development was later than in normal children. Those who had had mild IUGR showed slight deviation from the normal growth and development pattern.
